We have a team of officers and committee members who run the local party and coordinate our activities.
Janet Russell - Chair
Janet gained an MA in French and German language and literature at St Andrews University, only to pursue a career as a folk singer for many years, after working as a secretary in London (whence came The Secretary's Song, most popular song of the year on Folk on 2, around 1986). Janet is now a community choir leader and a Trustee for Silsden's Youth and Children's Centre, The Hive. She lives with her partner Jim Woodland in Silsden.
Ros Brown - Press Contact
Ros stood as the parliamentary candidate for the Keighley constituency in the 2015 and 2017 general elections and the Bradford Council election in 2018; increasing the Green Party vote share from 6% to 12% in the Ilkley Ward. Ros volunteered for many years in her local emergency nightshelter and as a befriender of lonely elderly people. She was the first person in her family to go to university gaining a BA in Art and Teaching Studies from Hull University. She is a former primary teacher and headteacher with a passion for enabling child- and teacher-led research. She has a MEd, MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge in these areas and continues to publish work as an independent education consultant. She is a member of the Bradford District committee of the National Education Union, the Aire Valley Against Incineration steering group, Ilkley Civic Society committee, Fair Funding For All Schools Wharfedale and a founding member of Wharfedale Tackles Plastic. She has lived in Ben Rhydding with her husband and young family since 2009 and has been active in seeking to protect local greenbelt. She is a Youth Support Leader for St Johns Ambulance in Keighley and leads crèche at her parish church alongside supporting its Fairtrade work. She has been an Ilkley Harrier, 1940’s swing jiver and cyclist for many years.
Caroline Whitaker - Secretary
Caroline Whitaker is a local election candidate for Craven Ward.
Born and brought up in Skipton, Caroline went to York University where she gained a BA in Politics. She moved to Silsden almost 24 years ago and her children have attended the local primary schools. Formerly a local authority housing officer, and now a part time bookkeeper, she has always been keen to support the local community and is a former parent governor of Aireview Infant school and served on Ilkley Grammar School PTA for 9 years, including 5 as its chair. She is currently the secretary for Silsden Library Steering Group, Silsden’s Grand deParty team and 38 Degrees Airedale and is the volunteer Booking Officer for Silsden Town Hall. In her free time she enjoys Zumba and reading.
Trudie Jackson - Keighley East
Trudie moved to Keighley East fifteen years ago and stood as the Green Party candidate for the ward in 2018. She takes part in local clean up schemes and continues to be an active supporter of the Aire Valley Against Incineration campaign. Strong interests include making recycling easier and reducing waste, especially single-use plastic. She believes we must protect the greenbelt and green spaces we enjoy in this stunning area of Yorkshire. As a grandmother, who does the school run regularly, she also sees road safety and air quality near schools as priorities.
Janet Souyave - Treasurer
Janet was planning to step down from the role of treasurer in November 2018, but has remained in the absence of any other current volunteers for the post.
Chris Turner (Wharfedale Ward) - Membership and Deputy Chair
Originally from Chesterfield, Chris Turner studied Software Engineering in Leeds in the mid-1980s. He also subsequently studied Psychology and Counselling. Chris moved to Burley-in-Wharfedale in 2000 and works for a global electronics company in Saltaire. He has 2 daughters at secondary school in Ilkley and has been campaigning against local green-belt declassification and development.

Anahata - Webmaster
A retired electronics and software engineer, Anahata has long experience of building and hosting web sites both at work and at home. He moved to Riddlesden from East Anglia in 2017 with his wife Mary Humphreys, has been a Green voter for several years and joined the Green Party in 2018. He is also a folk musician and runs a small recording studio at home.
