Six new Green Party parish and town councillors in the Keighley and Ilkley area were elected on May 2nd.

13 May 2019

The Green Party made spectacular gains in the local elections, most significantly with new councillors in many districts that previously had no Green Party members.

Overall we made substantial gains in total number of elected members, in contrast with huge losses in Conservative, Labour and UKIP elected numbers.

In the Keighley and Ilkely area, the Green party has 6 new town and parish councillors.

Caroline Whitaker: Silsden Town Council
Chris Turner: Burley in Wharfedale Parish Council
All four Green Party candidates for Ilkley Town Council were elected:
Ros Brown and Tim Thorpe for Ben Rhydding
Owen Wells and Jackie Thomson for Ilkley West

In the Bradford District Ilkley Ward, Ros Brown doubled her share of the vote from the previous election to 25% with substantially more votes than Labour. In the Craven Ward Caroline personally leafleted throughout the whole area and received 19% of the votes cast (two and a half times more than she did in 2018).

Everywhere, support for local Green party candidates has increased.
